How Christmas Tree Lights Were Used To Fight A War
Posted on 09 Dec, 2018
Home is the place you can always come back to, no matter how many bad things you have done in your life. Home is a shelter, a place to recuperate, to heal, to be whole again.
Colombia is a country of exceptional beauty and promise, but it is also home to one of the most deadly guerilla groups in the world. For the past 50 years, the guerillas have financed its political and military battle against the Colombian government by kidnapping, extortion and participating in the drug trade.
After decades of failed peace talks, Jose Miguel Sokoloff, an advertising executive, had an idea, to use Christmas trees and personalized messages in the jungle to send a message to the guerillas, that there was someone waiting for them at home, and that they should return.
“Where we love is home – home that our feet may leave, but not our hearts.” – Oliver Wendell Holmes.
