The problem with a lot of the happiness we feel today is that it is fleeting. We experience happy moments, but when those moments expire, we fall back into a dreariness that has become a default for us, a never-ceasing struggle that we may on occasion refer to as ‘real life’.
In this short clip, the Dalai Lama jokes with Michael Franti about appearances, long term contentedness and how to be a monk without restrictions. Half of the Dalai Lama’s message is delivered in his words. The other half is projected by his body language— the glint in his eyes, his infectious laugh and the warmth glowing out of him.
